Wi-Fi Hacking: Watchout it can be your device

In my previous post I mentioned a technique which is used to hack into any smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity you can see here LINK

Not only Bluetooth is a type of connection in which hackers can gain access to a smartphone there are various techniques your phone is vulnerable. Also, Wi-Fi is an easy option to access data through various softwares and techniques.

Wi-Fi is meant to be the easiest way to connect to internet and do bank transactions, do shopping and buy anything you like on the internet. Some of the techniques which can make your smartphone an easy access to others are mentioned below.

1.       Via Public Wi-Fi

Public Wi-Fi always sounds very catchy to many people as there are many hackers looking for public Wi-Fi to gain access to multiple devices (Laptops, Smartphones, Tablets). And most of the internet users don’t care that Wi-Fi is turned on or off on their device. Hackers may create a Wi-Fi by the same name and may be a similar one and the devices which are mostly turned on in the connectivity options and searching for a connection to be connected automatically. So the hackers do find this as a good opportunity by connecting peoples devices via their created Wi-Fi network they can gain access to your device`s data. See what social media network you are connected to and collect sensitive information using your cookies.

2.       Via Similar Networks

Hackers may also find Public Wi-Fi a good option but there are some of the internet users who mostly don’t turn on their automatic connection which is a hurdle for some hackers but they have also found a way to connect a device via Wi-Fi using some devices and some extra coding knowledge. There are many options for that but there is a method which is mostly used by hackers to connect into another’s device. Using a simple device called Raspberry Pi which can be used as a Linux testing and experimenting device. They program the Raspberry Pi to act as a Wi-Fi router and first collect the names and passwords of the Wi-Fi connections your device has saved to connect automatically. Once the names and passwords are collected by hackers they can make a dummy Wi-Fi connection using one of your saved networks to connect to your mobile device and look for something they find useful.

These methods are mostly used to collect sensitive information from anyone’s device which uses internet and have Wi-Fi. So, make sure you have turned your Wi-Fi off when it is not in use. And turn off the automatic connection option so your device may not connect automatically. Once you have reached your place you can connect again. Also try to use secured Wi-Fi networks instead of Public Wi-Fi Networks. But if you want to connect to a public Wi-Fi ask for the name from whom the network belongs to and it may make your Smartphone an easy access to others. Also, it is very useful to make your bank transactions using your Mobile Data connection or your personal network which you mainly use in your home.
